The area of Castiadas is a relaxing paradise, but it is also an area rich in opportunities to enjoy a holiday of adventure and emotions. The area is the ideal destination for water sports, being windswept is great for surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing, great for exploring coves , or even water skiing, a wonderful experience thanks to the water mild temperature and the charming scenery. In Villasimius there is a seat of the Lega Navale Italiana (Italian Naval League), which organizes sailing courses and events for children: a Saturday could be the opportunity to introduce your son to a wonderful sport and the respect for the sea, therefore combining fun and a great educational experience. In addition to sailing, you can

spend a morning exploring the marine biology and the real life of the sea. An unique experience for children and adults to discover the ecosystem, fish, plant and animal life of the Mediterranean Sea.

The area is also the ideal destination for diving and snorkeling, any time of the day is suitable to discover the Cala Sinzias and Villasimius seabed, a paradise with the Marine Protected Area, full of life and natural wonders. You can carry out activities, courses, also hire equipment for guided dives, and discover fish such as grouper, sea bream, barracuda and an underwater paradise of wrecks and coral. A morning can also be dedicated to fishing, to live deeply the maritime traditions, with fishing nets and fish traps, looking for mullet, cuttlefish and octopus (and for the lucky and stubborn ones even shellfish) and savor them on board of a boat, accompanied by a good Vermentino, according to old recipes and local gastronomic traditions.

A Sunday can be spent to visit the former penal colony of Castiadas, dating back to 1850, today seat of the Museo del Territorio (Museum of the Territory) or the archaeological sites of the area, such as Domus de Janas dating back to the Neolithic, Nuraghi, or the megalithic complex of Cuili Piras, consisting of 53 standing stones dating back to 5000 BC. In addition, the Pro Loco of Castiadas is particularly active in the organization of folk shows, festivals and exhibitions. Especially from June to September take place two of the main religious feasts such as San Giovanni Battista (St. John the Baptist, June 25th), the village’s patron saint, celebrated in the hamlet of Olia Speciosa in a procession with horses and chariots in his honor, folk shows, games and popular traditions.

While the feast of the Our Lady of the Assumption (Festa dell’Assunta Vergine) is on August 15th, in the hamlet of San Pietro, and it is celebrated with a Mass and a procession towards the sea, with the faithful wearing the traditional Sardinian dress, with decorated horse-cars, ending with a procession on boats along the beaches of Cala Sinzias, Cala Marina and Monte Turno.
