Top 5 beaches of South Ogliastra
The holiday in Tertenia, located in the southern side of Ogliastra, is perfect for those who are looking for calm and relaxation. The Marina of Tertenia, with beautiful beaches dominated by red granite hills is located about seven kilometers from the town, and it can be reached from Cagliari thanks to the new Strada Statale 125 Var and then to the coast road that from the town of Tertenia leads to the sea.
The first beach you find in the Marina is Foxi Manna, about one kilometer long and located at the foot of beautiful Monte Cartucceddu: it presents a light-colored and thin sand, surrounded by rocks and depending on the wind, on the beach is common to find some Posidonia, an element that certifies a pristine environment, and makes the location at the same time very wild. Its waters are transparent and of a wonderful blue due to the light effects created by the sun reflected on the seabed: a further color is offered by the magnificent green that borders the beach. It’s accessible from several points on foot easily identifiable without any difficulty. Its peculiarity is that it is never crowded, even in high season. Overlooking the bay, in a dominant position over the area, there is the Nuraghe Aleri, dating back to the 1400 and 1000 B.C., ideal for an afternoon after a day on the beach.
The whole area is particularly relevant from the landscape point of view, tourism, agricultural and sheep-rearing culture and it offers a totally unspoilt and wild environment, with stunning views, ideal for those who are looking for a quiet holiday surrounded by nature.
Near the beach of Foxi Manna, another wonderful beach is Foxi Murdegu, also known by the name of Sarrala. It is dominated by the Aragonese watch tower of San Giovanni di Sarrala (which became an important bunker during the Second World War) which offers a breathtaking view over the east coast.
Foxi Murdegu is characterized by white sand, in some sections mixed with pebbles, with a uncontaminated charm and remarkably wild, it is bathed by a crystal-clear sea, with beautiful shades of green and a seabed that descend toward the sea. The beach is very compact and more comfortable than the nearby Foxi Manna, one of the most peaceful and relaxing places of the entire coast, a seaside destination particularly suitable for those who are looking for total relax.
Another very nice beach is the Caletta Pagliuzze Dorate, reachable via the SS 125 to Muravera, towards Tertenia and the Marina of Tertenia; following the signs you go down to the cove via a steep path along the rocks, but we assure you that it is really worth it!
The beach is secluded and made up of pebbles and dark stones, the water looks blue and clear with its quite shallow water near the shore. It’s surrounded by dark rocks and a rich Mediterranean vegetation. It is never very busy and it is very suitable for diving and snorkeling lovers.
Nearby we can also find other beaches belonging to the territory of Tertenia, quite small but at the same time relaxing and enchanting, as the Barisoni beach where begins another sort of coastline: here the landscape becomes much wilder, the agricultural areas tend to decrease visibly and completely disappear making space for a wild and unspoilt nature.
Breathtaking ups and downs by the sea and the complete lack of hotels and homes, only nature with its different colors. The road is particularly recommended for mountain bikers. Other beaches as well impressive and interesting from the landscape point of view are Sferracavallo, the Abba Urci beach and the beach called Su Prettu.
And after a day on the beach, the locals hospitality will give you the opportunity to taste the genuine flavors of the traditional Ogliastrina cuisine: is culurgionis, roasted meats and salted meat of any kind, bread and sweets.
The south-eastern coast of Sardinia with its Mediterranean vegetation, its coasts, its water and its landscapes, as well as its culture offer an ideal atmosphere where to enjoy your holiday of relaxation and complete peacefulness.
